Playing live? Tap into your audience's phones!

Updated: Sep 3, 2023

Musician PSA: >90% of your audience has a phone in their pocket. If you are playing an in-person concert and not leveraging that power, you're missing out.

Here are 7 things you can do to leverage the gear in everyone's pockets:

Community:

  1. Add audience members to your mailing list, so they'll know about your next gig (especially people who don't know you!)

  2. Allow them to interact with each other during & after the concert - give them space to build a fan community!

Monetization:

  1. Let them tip you or raise money for charity (fundraising is not shameful! Universities, orchestras, museums, etc. live from donations.)

  2. Sell them a small memento (e.g. merch) to remind them of your beautiful performance.

Engagement:

  1. Show them interactive media (lyrics, sheet music, photos, videos, etc.) You can literally project this into their phones if the venue doesn't have screens!

  2. Show them close-up footage of yourself from the stage. Your phone is enough to do this. And no worries about audio quality - you're only sending video!

  3. If you're playing with others, place a phone on each music stand and let your audience choose which close-up they look at. You don't need operators when every band member has a phone. In fact, if you're using a tablet to read sheet music, you already have a camera facing you.

These are all things you can do RIGHT NOW using Cicada.

The only thing you need is your own smartphone.

In this day and age, there's no excuse to not engage your live audience.
